About #4TheCulture
The #4TheCulture program provides students with an opportunity to explore various career pathways via the career exposure series. The #4TheCulture career exposure series currently includes a cosmetology program, a digital photography program, a young writers program, and a creative design program.
How Does It Work?
Each of the #4TheCulture career series provides students with access to mentors, interactive skill development sessions, and professional development opportunities. Each series also includes a resident expert, who is currently making an impact in their respective field.
In addition to access to powerful experts in the field, students receive high quality, interest based instruction, access to full #4TheCulture curriculum packages designed by Dr. NiLa Austin and ample opportunities to co-create the content and climate of their learning experience.
Students complete a culminating project at the end of each career exposure series. For example, students participate in a hair show at the end of the cosmetology program, a fashion expo at the the end of the creative design program and a book launch at the end of the young writers program. The culminating projects provide students with an opportunity to showcase their newly acquired skill set.
What Does It Provide?
Overall, the #4TheCulture program provides the tools needed for students to truly explore their preferred industries, while also incorporating core academic and SEL standards into the pathway content.

This book serves as the final outcome of the #4TheCulture Digital Photography Program. Over the course of five weeks, students engaged in a variety of field experiences, which included visits to local museums and photography studios. They were guided by a dedicated team consisting of Dee Dwyer, an esteemed professor from Howard University, renowned for her expertise in photography; Dr. NiLa Austin, an international psychologist and distinguished educator, who also serves as the Director of Student Experience for the District of Columbia Public School system; and Sabrina Allen, a passionate educator, coach, and native of Washington, D.C. In addition to receiving comprehensive photography instruction, students were encouraged to assume leadership roles in the realm of visual storytelling. This guidance acted as a catalyst for their creative inspiration, resulting in the creation of a significant body of work. "The World As We See It" offers a unique opportunity for society to perceive the world through the distinct perspectives of these young individuals.
