Big Bro / Big Sis Mentorship
About Big Bro / Big Sis
Big Bro, Big Sis Mentorship Program is a component of our #4TheCulture initiatives, aiming to empower 8th-grade students by providing them with the opportunity to become mentors and receive training to support younger scholars.
How Does It Work?
During the training phase, mentors engage in an intensive retreat to ensure they are well-equipped to assist their mentees throughout their middle school journey. Using the #4TheCulture curriculum, mentors learn and apply strategies for helping their mentees through various interactive scenarios they may encounter. They also acquire the skill of setting goals for themselves and their mentees. Before being matched with a mentee, mentors identify their strengths and are then paired with a mentee whose needs align with their teaching style.
Mentors and mentees maintain regular communication with two check-ins per week, along with two monthly whole-group mentor-mentee sessions to strengthen their relationships.
What Does It Provide?
Mentors collaborate with program leaders to develop practical, interactive materials for their mentee check-ins. Over the course of the program, mentees and mentors work together to identify strategies that enhance their relationship and compile these insights into a valuable workbook, which will be published for the benefit of future mentors and mentees.
